Description

Creation Motion takes its inspiration from Michelangelo’s creation imagery in the Sistine Chapel, reimagining the sweeping figures and ethereal space through my mixed-media process.

What draws me to Michelangelo’s original is the extraordinary sense of movement—the figures seem to emerge, turn, and flow through a space that is never completely defined. Through expressive mark-making, layered paint and composition that move between representation and abstraction, I push that ambiguity even further.

The figures remain recognizable, but the surface begins to break them apart. Bodies, color and gesture merge with the surrounding space, creating a visceral sense of something coming into being. Rather than illustrating the Genesis story literally, Creation Motion explores the energy of creation itself—the emergence of earth, sky and life from an undefined existence.

This tension between the classical figure and the expressive surface is central to my Classical Redone series: using works from art history not as images to reproduce, but as starting points for discovering something new through the physical act of making.
